Finding a Joy-Filled Life – 5 Essential Keys to Deal With Office Politics

Finding a Joy-Filled Life – 5 Essential Keys to Deal With Office Politics

by Denny Stockdale

If you are like most people, you’ve had to deal with personality conflicts in the workplace. Conflicts can be good if the people involved are focused on solutions. Unfortunately, that’s often put aside. People take things personally and don’t feel like their ideas were heard, let alone understood. If you’ve ever had that experience, then these simple and powerful tips will help you get unstuck and move toward a joy-filled life.

If you are sincerely interested in moving your career forward, you’ll have to learn to deal with all types of people and conflict. Staying solution focused will help you reach the joy-filled life you want and deserve.

Step One
Write out the situation – what happened and how you responded. This will help you identify what works and what doesn’t. This will help get things off your mind a little. If it fits for you, be as angry as you want on paper. You don’t have to show this to anyone. This can be a venting session and a way to dump.

Step Two
After you’ve completed step one, go back and think this through from a different perspective. Think about solutions. How would you handle this situation if you were in the other person’s role? Are there specific things you might recommend? Again, you don’t have to show this to anyone at this point.

Step Three
Set these two pieces aside for a couple of days. Then revisit these lists. Add any additional thoughts, feelings and ideas.

Step Four
Rewrite the situation out and think of a few different ways to handle this – both as the receiver and giver of the message. The more perspectives you look at this situation with, the more likely you are to come up with a solution.

Step Five
Schedule a meeting with your boss or co-worker to go over your suggestions for a solution. Let him or her know you’d like help in figuring out a good way to handle this situation.

If you are sincerely interested in moving your career forward, you’ll have to learn to deal with all types of people and conflict. Staying solution focused will help you reach the joy-filled life you want and deserve.
