Public Speaking Tips – For an Effective Presentation

If you experience a sense of anxiety before an important presentation, it is absolutely normal and it may be helpful to your speech delivery. On the other hand, if your anxiety levels are beyond your control, it will have a negative effect on your presentation. Thus, in this article, I would like to share a few public speaking tips that may prove useful the next time you have an opportunity to speak in front of an audience.
1. Have the content of your speech at your fingertips. Select a subject that you are highly passionate about. Ensure that your research content exceeds the content included within your prepared speech. Adopt effective jokes and include your own experiences within your speech so as to engage the audience.
2. Have sufficient preparation before the actual speech delivery. Deliver your speech as many times as possible aloud in front of a mirror. Notice your body language as well as how you sound when you deliver your speech content. Make suitable adjustments as you go along.
3.Be familiar with the actual speech environment. Awareness of the actual environment will allow you to plan your body language to suit the environment. Generally, huge hand gestures are only used in auditorium with hundreds of seats.
4. Be calm. Start by greeting the audience warmly. Smile gently and give yourself a break of 3 seconds before commencing on your speech. This public speaking tip will put you at a more relaxed state of mind before you speak.
5. Understand that the audience wants you to excel. Know that the audience is always on your side so long as you strive to deliver a message that will prove beneficial for them.
